Kazemattenmuseum on the Afsluitdijk

Just a few kilometres from the Frisian coast you will find the famous kazematten (casemates) of Kornwerderzand on the Afsluitdijk. It is the only place in Europe where the
‘German Blitzkrieg’ advance was stopped in May of 1940. Only 225 Dutch
soldiers knew how to hold back almost 17.000 Germans. A story to be proud of.
Casemate VII is the so called “Searchlight casemate”. Inside a sort of mirror reflection system had been planned, where the searchlight was placed inside and the mirrors outside. Why is there finally a searchlight set up in a fixed position?
2020 a special year. This year we are celebrating the fact that we have lived in Freedom for 75 years. A special year for everyone, and certainly for our museum. Even though we are still closed for the individual visitor, there are many extra activities on the agenda...
